~Article from Vogue which I couldn’t agree with more~. Heads up for the fashion trends ahead!
I’m a winter girl at heart so it goes without saying that the return of Sweater Weather has me a little excited. Cashmere! Ankle boots! Knitted turtlenecks and tea! There’s nothing quite like being reunited with the haze of a chilly autumnal morning, wispy clouds strewn across the
winter sky, the smell after rain and copious amounts of cinnamon tea.
As a new season invariably promises a new wardrobe, I’m looking to Myer for inspiration as I have done so every other year. With an inspiring line-up of Australian designers right on our doorstep, it seems I fortunately don’t have to look too far to get a head start on my autumn/winter wish list.
Here’s how I’m decoding the key trends for this autumn and winter that will make me look forward to getting out of bed on a bitterly cold morning. Think garden florals, a leather renaissance, and colour thrown in for good measure.
1. SEEING RED
Whether you’re paying homage to this season’s leading shade through your lipstick or your outfit, there’s no denying that red is mood-lifting, complexion-enhancing and confidence-boosting. It’s the colour of love, after all.
Autumn and winter promises striking colours and luxe silhouettes contrasted with texture and pattern. Tame the tricky animal print trend by pairing bold crimson hues with a modern leopard heel.
Black is the new black this season. If your style is subtler, monochrome is your go-to look for instant and effortless chic. Neutral tones, such as grey, can also add personality and depth in an intelligent and relevant way.
Think of this trend in not only in terms of colour, but also silhouettes. Anchor a lightweight trapeze dress with a structured coat. Alternate shapes keep a monochrome outfit from looking predictable.
3. CITY SAFARI
Playful animal prints are on the style horizon this season for a modern take on classic safari. Loafers with a gold bow motif add a lighthearted and down-to-earth touch.
Transition into autumn by wearing a coat as a dress. Cinch in the waist with a thin belt and throw the coat over last season’s slip dress.
4. WINTER FLORALS
Everything’s coming up roses this season. A darker take on summer florals come alive like
a garden in full bloom.
Refresh your style and your spirit by teaming moody florals with vibrant separates. A boost of print and colour – preferably all at once – will leave dreary weather in its wake.
Keep hair and make-up minimal and simple to let this trend blossom all on its own.
5. LEATHER LOVE
Who doesn’t love leather in
winter? Modern lines and dramatic silhouettes update a seasonal mainstay. Think laser-cuts, relaxed tailoring, and of-the-moment midi-lengths.
Soften edgy leather with animal print in non-leather finishes. These ponyhair pumps add femininity and on-trend appeal, creating the perfect mix of punk and princess.
Winter weather isn’t looking so bad after all.
